15 Weeks +

Hello again,

This is another update on the life and times of the little parasite growing in my wife's womb.  Don't worry parasite is not a bad word to say. Scientifically all babies are parasites to their mothers. Its not 15 + weeks and the baby is growing nicely. Selina (the mother) had her blood extracted for blood check to see how she's doing and the doctor started her on multivitamins, calcium tablets and fish oil. We also saw the baby move quite a bit thus making the pictures a bit blurry. The doctor managed to point out the hands and legs and the heart to us but the nicest part was hearing the baby's heartbeat. It can only be described as sound of a horse running. The doctor mentioned the average heartbeat for the baby would be 150 beats a minute. Well that's it for now. The next checkup will be on the 15th of August so i'll see you all then

12 Weeks +

Ha ha,  ok time to write something :). Ok let me see, what happened this week. Oh yes, this was the week that we would do the "nuchal translucency" screening. What is that you ask? Well its a prenatal test that's done between 11 to 14 weeks in the pregnancy and its done to assess the baby's risk of having Down syndrome (DS) and other chromosomal abnormalities as well as major congenital heart problems.
The test is an ultrasound test that measures the clear translucent space at the back of the baby's neck. On the ultrasound scan you can see there is a dark space just at the back of the baby. They measure the thickness of the that and from there give you a ratio of the risk that the baby has DS. Based on our results which was 1.5 mm the doctor said that this was the normal thickness for that age. Well that was good to hear. I did a check later when i got back and found out that this was that 1.5 was like a really average normal. It was the average thickness for normal baby's of that age.  This ends the update for this picture :).

Sorry it took so long :).

10 Weeks

Good day again, Its been 3 weeks since the last posting but we're back again for another picture. Today its 10 weeks and the little living thing can be clearly seen resembling something human. We call it a little jelly bean or peanut for now. The doctor was nice to highlight what would later become the legs and hands and the head. It's an amazing development from 3 weeks ago. You can still see the heartbeat but the most interesting thing was that you could see the little thing actually moving inside the womb during the scan. It was like jumping and flexing up and down in the womb. We thought that the doctor was doing it with the scan but it was the baby itself. Mum and Baby are fine at this moment of time with mum healthiy chomping on snacks and what not.
On our next update will be more interesting or more gut wrenching news as the next visit will be to check for indications of Down syndrome in the baby. We're going for a high-resolution imaging scan to see a particular of the baby. Will update in 3 weeks. Wish us luck :)

7 Weeks

This is the updated photo. We went to see the doctor on wednesday the 23rd for a second scan and lo and behold there was a little living thing forming. The doctor was nice enough to help highlight the baby in the scan and state the number of weeks. you can't see it in the picture but there's actually a little beating heart there. Pretty cool to see it on the screen.
